Contract interiors specialist Gradus has extended its market-leading range of XT stair edgings with its new CXT collection, designed to reduce the risk of slips and falls on ceramic, stone and marble stairs. Developed in line with BRE research and the latest recommendations in BS8300:2009, the three new aluminium profiles incorporate an extended slip-resistant insert that continues around the leading edge of the step, ensuring optimum underfoot contact with the slip-resistant surface. This can help to significantly reduce the number of slips, trips and falls on stairs in healthcare, education and commercial applications. Specifically designed for use with ceramic, marble and stone flooring, the CXT range features the traditional fixing method which when installed correctly ensures the profile is fitted securely. In addition, the profiles feature a 55mm riser and 55mm tread with a 24mm perforated flange to compensate for the increased depth of ceramics compared to carpet or vinyl floorcoverings. This also helps building owners to create an inclusive environment, as set out in the Disability Discrimination Act. (DDA). Caroline Davies, Accessories Product Manager for Gradus, comments: “Following the success of our XT range, which is the only stair edging system that meets the requirements of the revised BS8300, we introduced the CXT range to offer the same safety standards for ceramic, marble and stone staircases. “The CXT profiles are installed by double bedding the profile into the adhesive which mechanically locks it into place, enabling specifiers to offer protection for ceramic tiles, whilst also providing building owners with peace of mind that the product offers superior protection from slips and falls.” The CXT range is available with two insert options: Xtra-grip plus, making it suitable for use in both dry and wet interior conditions subject to regular cleaning or in food preparation areas and Interior insert for use in dry interior conditions. The new profiles are available with a choice of insert colours and are suitable for use on the most popular step shapes. The range of inserts are measured for Light Reflectance Values (LRVs) in line with BS8493:2008, which specifiers can use to ensure suitable colour contrast with adjacent floorcoverings.
