AMORIM FLOORING INTRODUCES ACRODUR ADVANCED BINDER TECHNOLOGY BY BASF
In an exclusive partnership, Amorim Flooring the world’s largest cork and wood-on-cork flooring producer, and BASF the World’s leading chemical company, have joined forces and developed the next generation of eco-efficient flooring and wall covering cork products.
World leaders in their sectors and acknowledged for quality, innovation and unique solutions, Amorim Flooring and BASF have combined more than a hundred years of cork experience to produce the new innovative Acrodur eco-binder technology.
Acrodur is a water based binder developed by BASF that is free from phenol, formaldehyde and isocyanate, the binder also significantly reduces the level of emissions without affecting the technical performance of the products.
An important feature of Acrodur is that it greatly improves hygiene in the workplace by reducing odour and lowering emissions.
Amorim Flooring brands, Wicanders, Ipocork and Corklife, are now available with the new water based binder, replacing the traditional ‘Melamine-Urea-formaldehyde resin.
In 2007, BASF conducted an Eco-Efficiency report on several types of flooring, a comparative study, which analyses how eco-friendly and cost efficient, for the customer, a product or process is.
The study’s findings confirmed the superior Eco-Efficiency of cork flooring products, stating moderate consumption of resources and significantly lower emissions as well as CO2 retention, as reasons for this. In addition, cork also allows for considerable reductions in room heating due to its warmer touch and thermal insulation properties.
