The Gradus XT range, which offers the ultimate solution for protection against the risk of slips, trips and falls on stairs, has been extended with two new rake back and two new square back profiles.

Developed in line with research from BRE (Building Research Establishment), the new additions feature PVC-u channels and offer all the benefits of the existing XT profiles. This includes a choice of slip-resistant inserts that extend around the leading edge of the stair edging to ensure that foot contact is always made with the slip-resistant element of the stair edging.

The new additions, available in 7.5mm and 9.5mm gauges, have been developed by Gradus for use with cushion backed contract carpets, such as the Gradus Times Square range or a variety of carpets offered by Milliken.  The back edge detail on the new profiles allows carpet to be installed under the back edge, reducing the risk of damage to the edge of the carpet where it meets the stair edging and providing a neat finish with no exposed edges.

Lynette Bowden, Product Manager for Gradus, said: “The XT insert and channel colours match, providing the ideal solution for creating a single, solid band of colour that contrasts with the surrounding floorcovering to define the edge of the step. This is in line with guidance in BS 8300:2009+A1:2010, Approved Documents K and M of The Building Regulations 2010, BS 5395-1:2010 and BS9266:2013.

“Profiles are curvable, subject to approval of the template, and matching XT side trims are also available as welded corners which conceal and protect the edge of the floorcovering and stair edging for a neat finish on open-ended steps.”

Available in 14 colours, the XT range now includes ‘Wisp’, a new light grey that provides an excellent visual contrast with lighter colour carpets thanks to a light reflectance value (LRV) of 58.17.
